Stocky, robust little dogs standing 12 to 14 inches, Miniature Schnauzers were bred down from their larger cousins, Standard Schnauzers. The bushy beard and eyebrows give Minis a charming, human-like expression. The hard, wiry coat comes in three color patterns: salt and pepper, black and silver, and solid black.

Miniature Schnauzers are generally well-mannered and fun-loving dogs that make great additions to most families. They are loyal companions who are playful, curious, and alert, and love to be the center of attention. … And though their small size may make potential owners view them as lap dogs, they really aren’t.

Standard Schnauzers were originally bred to be ratters, guard dogs, and all-purpose dogs on German farms. Their versatility, medium size, protective nature, and love of family make them an excellent companion dog breed.

The term comes from the German word for “snout” and means colloquially “moustache”, or “whiskered snout”, because of the dog’s distinctively bearded snout. Initially it was called Wire-Haired Pinscher, while Schnauzer was adopted in 1879.

Notes on naming Schnauzer dog names.

  1. Choose a Schnauzer dog Name That Ends With a Vowel.
  2. Dogs tend to respond better to names with two syllables. They’re not short enough to be confused for a cue like sit, down, or come.
  3. Avoid Names With Negative Connotations.
  4. Don’t Pick One That Might Get Confused With Commands.
  5. Choose A Schnauzer Name That’s Unlike Your Other Pets.
  6. Perform The “Nickname Test”.
  7. Think Of Your Dog’s Personality.
  8. Choose a Name And Stick With It.
  9. Don’t give a name based on negative personality traits.
  10. Don’t make it something embarrassing to have to yell out.
  11. The dog’s name should be used as soon as possible.
  12. Avoid changing an adult dog’s name if the dog knows it already. If you must change the name, choose one that sounds similar. “Bailey” can be changed to “Hailey” or “Kaylee,” and “Charlie” can easily become “Harley” or “Farley. ”
